For one of the best views of Savannah’s historic district, enjoy a short ferry ride on Savannah Belles Ferry. This free ferry takes you across the Savannah River to Hutchinson Island and the Savannah International Trade & Convention Center seven days a week.
Also, when it comes to public transportation in Savannah, the DOT or downtown transportation system is free. DOT includes the Savannah Belles Ferry, the Express Shuttle (which helps people get around downtown), and the River Street Car which operates on the weekends.
Cathedral of St. John the Baptist
The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist is the oldest Catholic Church in Georgia and it is one of Savannah’s iconic places of worship. It resembles many of the cathedrals in Europe.
Welcoming thousands of visitors every year, you can tour the cathedral on your own or join a guided tour. Built in 1876, the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist is known for its intricate designs, stained glass, and large pipe organ. Although admission is free during the weekdays, donations are encouraged.
Tybee Island Beach
Nicknamed “Savannah’s Beach,” Tybee Island Beach is a quick getaway for tourists and locals alike. Only 20 minutes from downtown Savannah, enjoy 5 miles of Georgia’s soft sand coast and take in the sparkling views of the Atlantic Ocean while sunbathing or swimming. Some of the other fun things to do at Tybee Island Beach include biking, kayaking, sailing, dolphin tours, and fishing.
