From travel blogs to status updates on social media, I’m constantly discovering new places to visit. So far, I’ve crossed off two destinations from my travel wish list, Paris and Iceland. But there are so many other places that I want to see!
Since we’re already halfway through 2016, I figured this would be a great time to organize my thoughts and think about the destinations that I want to visit next.
Top 5 Places to Visit
Destination #5 – Italy (Accomplished November 2016)
I’m looking forward to embracing my inner foodie in Italy. Forget watching my figure. I want to eat tons of pasta and gelato and I want to drink lots of Italian wine in Tuscany.
Other things I would love do in Italy include a gondola ride in Venice, visiting the Colosseum in Rome and the Duomo in Florence. I also can’t forget a trip to the Leaning Tower of Pisa and Cinque Terre.
Centuries of religion and layers of creative genius in Florence
**Update November 2016: Yay! I made it to Italy, and the best part is that I took my mom on this 10 day trip to 2 countries and 3 cities (Italy and Switzerland). We spent 2 days in Milan and 3 days in Florence (my favorite Italian city so far).
In Milan, we enjoyed the vibrant Fall colors in a park and we climbed the top of the Duomo di Milano. In Florence, we toured the Duomo, the Baptistery and a few other museums in the city center. We also walked across the romantic Ponte Vecchio bridge and splurged a bit on chocolate, scarves and bags.
I still have quite a few things that I want to experience in Italy, but this is a fantastic start.

Destination #4 – Spain
Every year I intend to visit Spain, but it hasn’t happened yet.
In Spain, I want to immerse myself in the local culture and indulge a little…okay maybe a lot! I want to eat tapas, admire Gaudí’s work in Barcelona, learn to dance the flamenco and take lots of siestas.
Destination #3 – Greece
I’m saving Greece for my honeymoon.
I’ve accumulated airline miles for years so that we (my non-existent partner and I) can fly to Greece for free – thinking ahead! Signing up for new credit cards has been one of the quickest ways I’ve earned lots of miles and points.
In Athens, I want to explore the Parthenon and Acropolis. I also want to sail around the Greek islands. My hunky husband and I will be total beach babes – Ah…a girl can dream!
Destination #2 – New Zealand
New Zealand is the newest addition to my travel wish list.
After reading New Zealand in 2 Weeks by The Sweet Wanderlust, I dreamt of the scenery and landscape for weeks.
If I can meet the Māori people of New Zealand and see them do the haka war cry, my life would be complete!
Destination #1 – Turkey
At the top of my list (as of June 2016) is Turkey!
Turkey’s art, culture and landscape makes it incredibly diverse and a bit mysterious.
I want to spend lots of time in Istanbul, but I also want to visit Troy, Ephesus, and go on a hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia.
Other honorable mentions that did not make my top places to visit list include South Africa, San Diego, Australia, Phoenix (as of November 2016) and Morocco.
