Whether you’re visiting for the first time or looking for new angles and locales, here are some of Jessie’s favorite NYC photo spots that both travelers and locals should have on their radar.
1. Time Out Market New York Rooftop
For an elevated skyline view, Jessie recommends heading to the rooftop at Time Out Market in DUMBO, which includes 19 restaurants and three bars.
From here you’ll see the Brooklyn Bridge, the Manhattan skyline, and boats passing along the East River.
Why this spot is great for photos:
- Elevated skyline perspective
- Close-up views of the Brooklyn Bridge
- Perfect golden hour lighting
Address: 55 Water Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201
2. DUMBO
For good reason, DUMBO is one of the best photography locations in New York City.

Standing between historic brick buildings with the Manhattan Bridge perfectly framed in the background, it’s one of the most recognizable photo spots in New York.
Why photographers love DUMBO:
- Iconic Manhattan Bridge framing shot
- Historic cobblestone streets
- Incredible NYC skyline views from the waterfront
3. Westlight Rooftop
For a completely different skyline perspective, Jessie recommends heading to Williamsburg.
The rooftop bar at Westlight offers panoramic views of Manhattan from across the East River.
What makes this spot unique:
- Sweeping skyline views from Brooklyn
- Dramatic sunset photography opportunities
- One of the best rooftop vantage points in NYC
“Westlight in Williamsburg has an almost 360 degree view. The food is so amazing. Williamsburg is a really cool neighborhood and it’s attached to Bushwick which has a lot of cool street art. You get two aesthetics in one.” – Jessie Festa
4. South Street Seaport
If you want skyline photos without the heavy crowds, Jessie recommends heading to South Street Seaport for gorgeous views looking out towards Brooklyn and the Brooklyn Bridge.
Located along the East River, this historic neighborhood offers charming cobblestone streets and restored buildings.
“It feels like an old fishing village. It’s really cute and a lot of people, even locals don’t really go there.” – Jessie Festa
Photo highlights here include:
- Waterfront skyline views
- Historic ships and architecture
- Golden hour reflections on the East River

5. Governors Island
One of Jessie’s favorite underrated photography locations in NYC is Governors Island.
Just a short ferry ride from Manhattan, this peaceful 172-acre island offers some of the best views of the Statue of Liberty.
Why it’s special:
- Wide-open skyline views
- Unique vantage points of Lower Manhattan
- A slower pace compared to Manhattan
“There are no cars on the island; it’s very walkable. You can rent a bike or walk. They have hammock parks and you can rent a grill for the day.” – Jessie Festa
6. Take the Ferry
Another underrated way to photograph New York City is simply getting out on the water.
Jessie recommends hopping on a ferry to capture skyline views you can’t get from the streets.
From the water, the skyline opens up in a way that feels completely different from standing on a sidewalk or rooftop.
You’ll see the city layered with building, bridges, boats, and reflections on the river.
Two great options, include:
- NYC Ferry (from Wall Street to Rockaway Beach)
- Staten Island Ferry
Both offer sweeping views of Lower Manhattan and the harbor, and they’re a great way to take photos without fighting crowds at popular observation decks, like One World Observatory or NYC Edge Observation Deck.
Why photographers love the ferry:
- Expansive skyline views from the water
- Unique photo angles of bridges and buildings
- A relaxing break from walking the city
