My Honest Hotel Múli Review: A Quiet, Budget-Friendly Hotel in Reykjavík with Free Breakfast
If you’ve landed on this Hotel Múli review, you’re probably weighing whether this Reykjavík hotel is the right place to stay during your Iceland trip. I stayed at Hotel Múli during one of my trips and came away with a clear picture of who this place is perfect for. Rates range from $184 to $429 USD per night, and for that price point in Reykjavík, you’re getting a clean, comfortable hotel stay with free breakfast that actually fills you up.
The catch? Múli is a 40-minute walk to the heart of Reykjavík.
- 25 minutes walk to Sunvoyager
- 35 minutes walk to Hallgrímskirkja Church
- 40 minutes walk to Harpa Concert Hall
If you don’t need to be in the center of all the action, don’t mind walking or driving a bit to get into town, and want your Iceland budget going toward experiences rather than a premium address, Hotel Múli is absolutely worth considering. Keep reading for everything you need to know before you book.
Don’t have time to read the whole article? In short: I love this hotel for financially savvy travelers and recommend it for solo travelers, couples, and friend groups – so go here to check availability and rates now.

Where is Hotel Múli Located?
Hotel Múli sits in a quieter part of Reykjavík — about a 40-minute walk from the downtown core.
You won’t roll out of bed and immediately be surrounded by shops and restaurants, but the walk into town is manageable.
Hungry? Several restaurants are just a few blocks away, so you’re not stranded for food options either.
Getting There: Flybus and Parking
Flybus from the Airport
Getting to Hotel Múli from Keflavik International Airport is straightforward, and you don’t need a rental car to do it.
Without taking a taxi or renting a car, Flybus is your best option. When booking, select the hotel drop-off add-on, and Hotel Múli will be on the list. The airport shuttle will bring you directly to the hotel instead of the BSI Terminal, which I highly recommend.
One thing to be aware of: some buses will drop off (and pick up) at the Hilton Reykjavík Nordica instead of Múli, since the Hilton is closer to the main road. If that happens, it’s a short walk to Múli from there. Not a big deal, but worth knowing so you’re not caught off guard.
When booking your return Flybus to the airport, check whether your pickup is at Múli or the Hilton and plan accordingly.

Driving? Parking is Free
If you’re renting a car, Hotel Múli offers free parking on-site. Downtown Reykjavík is about a 10-minute drive, so you get the best of both worlds: free parking and easy access to the city center.
Need help deciding whether you should rent a car in Iceland? Here’s my honest take on exploring Iceland without one, and when it might actually be useful.
Check-In: Read That Welcome Email and Charge Your Phone
Luggage storage is free — they’ll email you a passcode for the luggage room before you arrive.
We tried to check in around noon, and as expected, the room wasn’t ready yet. The free luggage storage made the wait completely stress-free.
Here’s the most important thing to know: Múli does not have a 24/7 front desk reception.
Hotel Múli runs on a mostly self-service model. After 10 pm, there’s no staff on-site. If you arrive late or miss the check-in window, you’ll need to call the provided number to receive the front-door passcode and your keycard code.
This system works fine until your phones die. That happened to us, and it was really stressful.
Two things that will save you:
- Read the email Múli sends you with all the instructions thoroughly before you arrive. Everything you need is in there.
- Keep a portable charger with you. A dead phone in Iceland at 11 pm with no way to reach the front desk is not the adventure you want.

The Room: Simple, Smart, and Functional

The rooms at Múli are compact and well-designed.
Ours included:
- A desk and workspace
- Storage space for suitcases
- A TV
- A rain shower
- A heated towel rack
- Blackout curtains that work well
Don’t expect luxury, but you’ll find everything you need in a clean, comfortable space.
The staff was also friendly and helpful.
If Múli sounds like your kind of stay, book your room here before it fills up.
Breakfast: Load Up Before You Head Out
Every morning, Múli offers a complimentary breakfast from 7 to 10 am, which is genuinely one of the best perks of staying here.

During our stay, the spread included:
- Coffee (cappuccino, latte)
- Eggs
- Bread and cheese
- Cereal
- Bananas
- Apple and orange juice
- Warm croissants
My advice: don’t skip it.
Food in Iceland can be pricey, so a free meal that actually fills you up before a full day of sightseeing means serious savings.
Load up before heading out.
You can also find a coffee machine in the lobby, so feel free to grab a cappuccino, latte, or hot cocoa anytime.

A Few More Things Worth Knowing
Housekeeping runs every 5 days, not daily. Keep your space tidy and plan accordingly. There’s also a towel rack on the second floor where you can grab fresh towels between cleaning days.
No alcohol is sold at the hotel. If you’re looking for a drink at the end of the day, head to the Hilton Reykjavík Nordica nearby — it’s a short walk and a convenient option.
Doing laundry is free. They provide detergent too, so no need to bring your own.

How Much Does Hotel Múli Cost?
Rates typically range from $184 to $429 per night, depending on season and availability. We booked ours as part of a vacation package we first found through Travelzoo, which significantly reduced the cost. If you’re bundling flights and hotels, it’s worth checking whether Múli is an option in your package — it can be a smart way to stretch your Iceland budget further.

Is Hotel Múli a Good Option?
If you don’t need to be in the center of all the action, don’t mind a 40-minute walk (or quick 10-minute drive) into town, and appreciate the value of a free breakfast that actually sets you up for the day, Múli delivers.
It’s a practical, comfortable home base for exploring Iceland without overpaying for staying downtown. I’d recommend it to value-seeking solo travelers, friend groups, and couples.
Since it’s not conveniently in the city center, it’s probably not a great fit for families with young kids, the elderly, or anyone who doesn’t want to commute.
Hotel Múli is a great fit if you:
- Are traveling on a budget and want your money going toward experiences, not accommodations
- Don’t need to be steps from downtown and actually prefer a quieter vibe
- Appreciate a complimentary breakfast that fuels your day
- Are renting a car and want free parking
- Want to stay further out from the tourist center

It’s probably not the right fit if you:
- Want a luxury hotel experience
- Need 24/7 front desk access and full-service hotel amenities
- Want to be within walking distance of Laugavegur nightlife and restaurants
- Prefer daily housekeeping or on-site bar service
But if you’re headed to Iceland for the dreamy natural landscapes, the geothermal pools, and the Northern Lights, Hotel Múli gives you a solid, affordable home base to come back to at the end of every adventure.
