Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort Review: Is This Moderate Resort Worth It for Families?
Here’s what you need to know to decide whether this tropical Disney resort is the right fit for your family. Thinking about staying at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort for your next Walt Disney World vacation? In this Disney Caribbean Beach Resort Review, here’s everything you need to know before you book—from what the rooms are really like to insider tips for navigating the property with young kids.
Located just minutes from EPCOT, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is a vibrant, tropical-themed moderate Disney World resort for families with toddlers and young kids. We recently stayed here for the first time while attending the EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival with a toddler and two grandmas. We absolutely loved it, even after reading mixed reviews.

Despite its size, the resort’s Skyliner access, revamped rooms, and colorful tropical ambiance earned Caribbean Beach a spot in our Disney resort rotation.

About Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
This moderate-category Disney hotel near EPCOT first opened on October 1, 1988.
After undergoing major renovations, it’s now feeling fresh, vibrant, and welcoming to families.
📍Resort Address: 1114 Cayman Way, Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830
💰 Tier: Moderate ($$$ a night)

As a refresher, Walt Disney World categorizes its resorts into three main tiers: Value, Moderate, and Deluxe.
- Value Resorts are the most budget-friendly, with smaller rooms and basic amenities.
- Moderate Resorts, like Caribbean Beach, strike a balance—offering larger rooms, more dining options, themed pools, and better transportation access (like the Skyliner).
- Deluxe Resorts are the most luxurious, closest to the parks, and come with premium amenities and higher price tags to match.
So, if you’re looking for a family-friendly resort with upgraded amenities but not the deluxe price, moderate resorts are a good choice.

Old Port Royale: The Heart of the Resort
Old Port Royale is the main hub of Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.
It’s where you’ll find the lobby, front desk, concierge, quick-service dining, gift shop, poolside bar, and the iconic Fuentes del Morro pool.
Need cash? A 24-hour ATM is available at Old Port Royale, too.

Pretty much it’s the resort’s lively epicenter where everything happens.
Resort Layout: 6 Caribbean Villages
Caribbean Beach is divided into six colorful villages: Trinidad, Barbados, Martinique, Aruba, Jamaica, and Old Port Royale.

Each has:
- Its own bus stop (6 total)
- On-site laundry room
- Vending and ice machines
- Leisure pool
- Access to the 1.4-mile jogging trail around Barefoot Bay
- Sandy beaches and hammocks
The property is large and relatively flat, making it easy to navigate with strollers, but be prepared to walk long distances.
🚌 There’s also an internal shuttle—a huge help, especially when your room is far from central areas.

Caribbean Beach’s Proximity to Disney’s Riviera Resort
Another huge perk of staying at Caribbean Beach is how close you are to Disney’s Riviera Resort, a deluxe property that’s just a short walk away.
This means you can enjoy some of Riviera’s elevated dining options like:
- Topolino’s Terrace (character breakfast + rooftop dining)
- Le Petit Café (coffee by day, wine and small bites by night)
- Primo Piatto (delicious quick-service options)
While all of Rivera’s amenities are not available to you, in many ways, you get access to two resorts for the price of one!
Room Review: Our 5th-Sleeper in Trinidad Village
When we arrived in the late evening, our room was ready with no issues. But if I’m being honest, the check-in process felt rushed and uneventful.
We left with a map but without a clear understanding of how massive the property is—surprise, it’s enormous.
Especially if it’s your first time staying at the property, ask for an orientation, it’ll save you time (and lots of steps) later.
We stayed in a 5th-sleeper room with two queen beds and a child pull-down bed—standard view, in the Trinidad section.
A 5th-sleeper room includes an additional child-size pull-down bed—perfect for families with multiple kids or multi-gen families.

Key features:
- 2 queen beds
- Pull-down sleeper (roomy enough for little ones or small adults—but not ideal for bigger adults)
- Stroller storage under the bed—a total game-changer
- Sliding door separating sink area and bedroom area
- Ample drawer and closet space
- My Disney Experience app door access (no need to find the room key)
Note: The pull-down bed is not a full-size bed — best for kids or small, short adults.
Again these are motel-style rooms with outdoor access and no elevators. This may be a dealbreaker for some families traveling with lots of gear or those who prefer indoor hallways.
💡 Pro Tip for Families: Ask for a lower-level room (buildings are two-story). It’s not guaranteed, but easier with kids and strollers.
Transportation: Skyliner & Buses
This is the only moderate resort with Disney Skyliner access, connecting guests to:
- EPCOT (via France in the World Showcase)
- Hollywood Studios
- Pop Century, Art of Animation, Riviera Maya Resort
As for travel times to parks, budget 10 minutes to EPCOT by Skyliner and 15 minutes to Hollywood Studios.
Depending on the number of stops it can take up to 30 minutes to get to Magic Kingdom by bus.

Plus, a Joffrey’s Coffee shop is right by the Skyliner station—morning coffee, here we come!
Skyliner perks:
- Easy stroller access—no folding required
- Epic fireworks views at night
The resort also offers internal shuttles and stops to Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Disney Springs.
Buses can take time circling the property before heading to parks.
Caribbean Cay Playground: A Hidden Gem for Young Kids
Tucked away on its own little island in the middle of Barefoot Bay, Caribbean Cay Playground is one of the most underrated amenities at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort — especially for families with young kids!
To get there, you’ll walk across a footbridge that connects the island to the rest of the resort.
The views of the water are peaceful and scenic, and once you arrive, you’ll discover a spacious, immersive playground surrounded by tropical landscaping and shaded seating.
Our toddler had a blast here! This spot makes a fantastic last-day activity if you’re checking out and have time to kill before departure.
There are slides, climbing structures, and soft play areas designed for a variety of ages, making it a fun stop for both toddlers and even older kids.
💡 Pro Tip: Grab a coffee from the nearby Joffrey’s kiosk and enjoy a relaxing moment while the kids play.
Pool Fun: Fuentes del Morro & Five Village Pools
Fuentes del Morro pool is a pirate-themed splash zone with two waterslides (one 102 feet long!), zero-entry access, and “man-of-war” cannon features.
There are also five leisure pools—one tucked away in each village. Towels are complimentary at all pools.
We regret not spending more time here—it’s the perfect way to wind down after a long day at the parks.
Dining Options
There are many dining options on property from quick service to upscale dining.
Centertown Market (Quick Service)
Great for breakfast, easy lunch, and dinner. Double-check your order, though—they messed up our orders a few times, but fixed them quickly.
Overall, the food was flavorful and prepared quickly.
💡 Pro Tip: Don’t forget you can mobile order, which is a huge time-saver, especially after long days at the parks.
While there aren’t microwaves in the rooms, you can find one inside Centertown Market, where you are welcome to warm bottles or quick snacks.
Refillable drink stations are also located here—perfect for filling water bottles before heading to the parks.
Banana Cabana Pool Bar
Great drinks, friendly bartenders, and a tropical vibe that instantly transports you to the Caribbean.

Calypso Trading Post
Need wine, snacks, or last-minute toiletries? This resort shop had everything we needed—including souvenirs.
The grab-and-go deli market was stocked with Disney toddler essentials, like milk, juice, and snacks.
Sebastian’s Bistro
Sit-down dining with a Caribbean flair—reservations recommended.
As for hours of operation, Centertown Market and Banana Cabana typically close around 10 p.m., but hours can vary. Check the My Disney Experience app for updated dining times during your stay
💡 Pro Tip: For a more upscale dining experience, consider the nearby Riviera Maya Resort.
Okay, time to recap with a pros and cons list.

Caribbean Beach Resort Review: A Solid Pick for Families
Is Caribbean Beach Resort the best moderate resort at Disney? It just might be.
The Skyliner hub, beautiful surroundings, friendly cast members, and family-forward amenities made our stay relaxing and memorable.
Caribbean Beach has earned its reputation as one of Disney’s top moderate resorts since its renovation. It strikes a refreshing balance between vibrant theming, family conveniences, and moderate pricing.
Plus, cast members are friendly and attentive toward young children. Many went out of their way to gift our child small toys and stickers.
Stay at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort if you’re:
- Traveling with young kids who’ll love the playground, splash zones, and stroller-friendly layout.
- Wanting Skyliner access to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios.

This resort may not be the right fit if you:
- Don’t want long walks or multiple internal bus stops
- Need guaranteed proximity to the Skyliner (you can’t reserve specific buildings)
- Prefer indoor hotel hallways vs. outdoor/motel-style rooms
Though we (really) love Disney Coronado Springs Resort, Caribbean Beach may be the next hottest moderate pick right now—especially for families prioritizing the Skyliner.
We’ll definitely return—and likely rotate between Caribbean Beach and Coronado Springs.
